On “diesel scandal” it became known in September 2015, when the EPA agency has accused Volkswagen of using “deceptive” equipment in its two-liter diesel engines. The Germans used a special software that translated the power plants in the “clean mode” when connecting measuring instruments during the test.
As a result, the level of harmful emissions was reduced to a few dozen times. In the world the total number of vehicles falling under the “diesel gates”, is estimated at about 11 billion units.
Volkswagen and US authorities reached a final agreement on the total amount that the German company will pay under the settlement of the so-called “diesel scandal”. The automaker has agreed to provide compensation to about $ 15 billion – five billion dollars more than previously estimated.
